Readers ask, you answer

Let readers ask on the page.

Ask a question on any page. Get the answer in context. Make the next version clearer. Every private thread remembers the page, version and language it was asked on.

The Brightlane proposal for Harrow Retail, open on page 4 of 5, Rollout. Beside the page, Olivia Bennett asks privately: How long would the rollout take for our first store? The question is saved with page 4, version 1 and English, and the reply will go to her verified email.

Ask where the doubt is

A question that knows where it was asked.

Readers ask on the page that raised the doubt, in the language they are reading. Decktrace saves the page, the version and the language with the question, so you never have to guess what they were looking at.

  • Asked on the page, not in a separate inbox
  • Works on a phone as well as a laptop
  • Saved with page, version and language
A reader on a phone reads the Brightlane proposal in Turkish and asks privately on page 3, The proposal: Ekip eğitimi teklife dahil mi? In English: Is team training included in the offer? The question is saved with page 3 of 5, version 1 and Turkish. The owner then gets an email about the new question.

Answer in context

Reply next to the page they asked about.

Every question opens beside the page it came from, as the reader saw it. Write your reply there. If the reader verified their email, the reply reaches their inbox and waits in their thread on the page.

The owner's question inbox for the Brightlane proposal, with four threads. Olivia Bennett's question on page 4, Rollout, version 1, English, is open beside a preview of that page. The owner replies: Week 1 we map one workflow with your operations lead. Week 2 we train one store team and start a small pilot. The reply is sent to Olivia's verified email and appears in her thread on the Rollout page.

Every thread remembers its version

Old questions keep their page.

When you publish a new version, readers get the new page and every earlier thread stays where it was asked. Open an old question and you see the page and version the reader was looking at, not today's.

  • Each thread is pinned to one version
  • New questions start on the new version
  • Nothing is moved or rewritten when you publish
Two versions of the Rollout page. Version 1, from Monday, has no dates; the threads from Olivia Bennett, Reader 3 and Reader 4 stay attached to it. Version 2, published today, adds a timeline: week 1, week 2, then a review. Readers now see version 2, and old threads still open on version 1.

Answers make the next version

When you answer, fix the page.

When you answer a question, Decktrace suggests where that answer belongs in the deck and drafts the addition. You edit it, approve it and publish it as a new version. Nothing is published until you choose.

How Smart suggestions work

Olivia Bennett's question on the Rollout page and Brightlane's answer lead to one Next version suggestion: Add a rollout timeline to page 4. Your answer says when the rollout starts, and the page gives no dates, so Decktrace drafted a short addition from your answer. Actions: Review the draft, or set it aside.

Private by default

Each thread stays between two people.

A question is seen by the reader who asked it and by you, the owner of the deck. Other readers of the same link see the same page with nothing on it, so people can ask what they would never ask in front of others.

Two readers on the same Rollout page. Olivia Bennett sees her own thread: her question and Brightlane's reply. Reader 5 sees the same page with no thread, only an empty question box. Who can see Olivia's thread: Olivia, who asked it, and Brightlane, who owns the deck. Other readers of the link cannot.

Also in every thread

Small things that keep the conversation going.

An email when someone asks, a clear view of what is still open, and questions that sit right next to the reading behind them.

  • Email

You get an email each time a reader asks a question.

  • Inbox

    See what is still open.

Threads waiting for a reply stay on top until you answer them.

    Ask from a phone.

The question box fits a phone as well as it fits a laptop.

  • Languages

    Kept in their language.

The language a reader used is saved with their question.

  • Replies

    Replies by email.

Readers with a verified email get your reply in their inbox.

  • Analytics

    Next to their reading.

Questions show in the reader's activity, beside time on the page.

Questions

Questions, answered.

No. A thread is visible to the reader who asked it and to the owner of the deck. Other people reading the same link see the page without it.

No account is needed to ask. A reader who opened the deck with an email code has a verified email, and gets an email when you answer.

They stay with the page and version they were asked on. Readers see the new version from then on, and when you open an older thread you see the page as that reader saw it.

No. When you answer a question, Decktrace can suggest where the answer belongs in the deck and draft the addition. You edit it, approve it and publish it as a new version. Nothing changes until you choose.

The plan is to let you choose, deck by deck, whether readers can ask. How that setting works is not settled yet. We will publish the details before launch.
